Spiaggia della Lecciona is a natural beach situated between the towns of Torre del Lago and Viareggio in Tuscany, Italy. It is recognized for its undisturbed landscapes, with the Apuan Alps serving as a stunning backdrop. The beach is a part of the Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli Regional Park, a protected area that spans 23,000 hectares on land and an additional 9,000 hectares of marine protected area.
The beach is characterized by its untouched sandy coastline, complete with dunes covered in vegetation that aid in preventing erosion. Wetland areas restored between the dunes and the adjoining pine forest add to the beach's natural appeal. To maintain the beach's natural state and minimize human impact, visitors are encouraged to use the official walkways.
In addition to its natural beauty, the beach is also known for its naturist practices. The area between poles 13 and 15 has been designated for naturism, officially recognized by the Municipality of Viareggio and the Italian Naturist Association (ANITA) since April 22, 2022.
Spiaggia della Lecciona is accessible via designated paths from Via dei Tigli, located near the entrance of Villa Borbone. These paths are suitable for strollers and wheelchairs and feature protected wooden walkways in areas with ponds and marshes. Visitors arriving by car can park in Viale Europa, where both public and private parking options are available. The beach is also reachable by public transportation, with several bus routes from Viareggio Station going to Viale dei Tigli.
Although the beach lacks infrastructure, it does offer some amenities. A beach bar provides refreshments, snacks, and food, and toilets and showers are available for a nominal fee. The beach is also dog-friendly, and visitors are allowed to bring their pets. However, the beach does not provide shade, so visitors are advised to bring their own umbrellas or cloth.
Despite its tranquil atmosphere, Spiaggia della Lecciona can become crowded, especially during August. Visitors can also expect to encounter salesmen offering a variety of items, including ice and drinks. Despite its popularity, the beach maintains its serene ambiance, making it an ideal spot for swimming, surfing, and enjoying stunning sunsets.
