This beach serves as the starting point of the celebrated coastal trail, a popular hiking route that meanders along the Basque Coast for 25 kilometers until it reaches Hendaye. The beach and its surrounding area underwent a site renaturation project in 2019/2020, aimed at creating a larger and more natural interior beach. The project also focused on restoring the biodiversity of the area, preserving the typical fauna and flora of this site.
Visitors to Plage d'Erretegia can avail of several amenities for their convenience. The beach is supervised during the months of July and August, ensuring the safety of its visitors. Despite its popularity, the beach is not overly crowded, making it an ideal spot for those seeking a peaceful retreat. However, parking availability is somewhat limited, and it is subject to a fee from June 15th to September 15th.
Reaching Plage d'Erretegia is relatively straightforward. It is accessible by foot, with a short 250-meter walk from the parking area. Visitors can also reach the beach by bike via the Vélodyssée, or by bus, alighting at the "Erretegia" stop. However, potential visitors should note that access to the beach can be slightly challenging, contributing to its quieter atmosphere.
