Spiaggia di Maimoni is a serene and picturesque beach located in the municipality of Cabras, within the province of Oristano, in the central-western part of Sardinia, Italy. It lies in the Gulf of Oristano and forms part of the marine area of the Sinis Peninsula. The beach is situated on the outskirts of the Seu natural oasis, which adds to its wild and unspoiled charm.
The beach stands out for its natural beauty, characterized by white and golden fine sand, partly composed of glassy quartz grains. These unique sand types, along with pink quartz pebbles, are typical of the Cabras coastline. The beach is approximately two kilometers long, offering expansive views of clear waters that quickly deepen, making it a unique feature of the location.
The beauty of Spiaggia di Maimoni is further emphasized by the contrasting colors between the sand and the greenish-blue sea. However, it's important to note that jellyfish tend to appear more frequently after a certain time in the afternoon. Also, seaweeds can be found in some areas of the beach, adding to its natural charm, though some may find it less maintained due to this.
In terms of amenities, there are a few places to eat near the beach, but visitors are advised to bring their own food, water, and parasols for convenience. It's important to note that taking sand from the beach is discouraged to preserve its natural state.
Parking is available at a cost in a dust park near the beach. However, reaching the beach can be a bit challenging as it is not easily accessible by car. A significant portion of the journey has to be made on foot, which keeps the beach less crowded, even during peak season.
To reach the beach, one can follow the Strada Provinciale 6 from Cabras towards the Strada Provinciale 4. Then, turn slightly right to stay on Strada Provinciale 6 for 8.8 kilometers. From there, turn right and take the road to Funtana Meiga, then turn right again and take the road to Maimoni.
Despite its remote location and the challenges in reaching it, the beach is worth the effort for those seeking a secluded and pristine coastal experience. Visitors should be aware that the beach may not be as enjoyable on windy days. Near the beach, there is a 17th-century church called San Salvatore, built on the remains of a pre-Christian hypogeum, adding a touch of historical intrigue to the location.
