Plage Gurp

Plage Gurp, located in the commune of Grayan-et-l'Hôpital in the Gironde department of Aquitaine, is a long sandy beach characterized by its natural beauty and historical significance. The beach is known for its preserved coastline, large dune area, and World War II blockhouses, which offer a unique blend of history and natural scenery. On clear days, the beach provides a clear view of the Cordouan lighthouse near the Gironde estuary.

The beach is accessible via a sandy path from the top of a cliff where a parking lot is located. Free parking is available for visitors, making it easy to access the beach. The parking lot also houses various amenities including shops and restaurants, providing catering options for visitors. Additional conveniences include showers at the parking lot and toilet facilities at a nearby campsite.

Plage Gurp is a popular destination for a variety of activities such as surfing and kite flying, suitable for both novices and professionals. Despite its popularity, the beach maintains a tranquil atmosphere and offers ample space for visitors. However, during high tide, the beach area can be somewhat limited.

During the summer season, a portion of the beach is supervised by lifeguards, ensuring safety for visitors. However, it should be noted that outside of the summer season, most of the amenities, including the shops, are closed.

The beach can be reached by following the road to the ocean for approximately 8 kilometers from the center of Grayan-et-l'Hôpital. In the vicinity of the beach, there are opportunities for hiking and relaxation, as well as cultural experiences at nearby attractions such as the picturesque port in Talais, the promenade in Soulac-sur-Mer, and the Richard Lighthouse in Jau-Dignac-et-Loirac.
