Hellshire, situated on the southern coast of Jamaica at a distance of approximately 20 kilometers from Kingston, offers a serene and peaceful beach experience. This beach, though not as well-known as its counterparts on the island, owes its relative obscurity to its location, which is quite far from most resorts and hotels.
Previously named as Healthshire, it was once a popular health retreat, and also served as a hiding place for fugitive slaves for several years before being discovered.
The beach is ideal for water activities, and swimming; however, the food available there is the real attraction. Numerous food vendors offer delicious and fresh seafood and poultry.
It must be noted though that locals may approach visitors to earn a quick buck, hence visitors looking for an unbothered experience might choose to avoid the beach.
Visitor reviews highlight that the beach is a great place to purchase and eat fresh seafood, take pictures, and swim in beautiful water. However, visitors complain about the aggressive vendors, overpriced food, and the fact that the beach is often crowded and dirty.
