Plage de la Batterie

Plage de la Batterie is a beach located in the commune of L'Aiguillon-la-Presqu'île in the Vendée region of France. This picturesque beach is situated at the southernmost part of the department, at the mouth of the Lay river, and is surrounded by dunes, forests and the Marais poitevin. One of the main features of Plage de la Batterie is the charming boardwalk that runs along the beach, built mostly from wooden planks which add to its rustic appeal, though it may be a bit bumpy for those with a stroller or a wheelchair. The beach is frequented by both local people and national visitors, with fewer international travelers. It is considered safe, even after dark. During the off-season, the beach is quiet making it a peaceful place to visit. In terms of amenities, there are numerous restaurants located near the beach which offer great ocean views. While they tend to be on the pricier side, they provide a range of options for visitors to enjoy. Parking is available at the beach, but spaces can fill up quickly, especially on weekends, so walking is recommended if possible. The area surrounding Plage de la Batterie also offers several attractions and places of interest including the Musée André Deluol, an art museum in Saint-Michel-en-l'Herm, the picturesque peninsula of La Faute-sur-Mer known for its biodiversity, and the Confiserie Leclercq, a confectionery shop that has been offering delicious treats since 1952.
