Plage de la Jetée

Plage de la Jetée is a picturesque beach located in the charming resort town of Andernos-les-Bains, situated on the shores of the Bassin d'Arcachon in Gironde, France. This beach is unique for its long jetty, the longest in France, which extends 232 meters into the ocean, providing a wonderful opportunity for leisurely walks and striking photographs of the surrounding nautical scenery. The beach is characterized by its shallow waters and sandy and muddy bottoms, making it an ideal location for families with children. Furthermore, the beach is also popular for its clean, fine sand and calm waters, providing a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. However, it should be noted that swimming can be challenging at low tide and the beach can completely disappear at high tide. Plage de la Jetée is surrounded by a lively town atmosphere with various attractions including an 11th-century church and the remnants of a 4th-century Gallo-Roman villa. The beach is also flanked by a colorful oyster port where visitors can observe the activities of local oyster farmers. In terms of amenities, the beach offers a nautical center and is close to a variety of shops, bars, and restaurants located around the jetty area. There are also several access points to the beach, including parking spaces on Ferry Street. Additional parking can be found at the intersection of Maillard and Vergniaud streets, as well as near the oyster port, although parking can be challenging during peak times. The beach is easily accessible with a bus stop located just a few minutes away. Despite its popularity, especially during the summer months, Plage de la Jetée maintains a family-friendly and tranquil atmosphere.
