Plage de la Lagune is a picturesque beach located in La Teste-de-Buch, a commune in the Gironde department in southwestern France. The beach is known for its natural beauty and large size, providing ample space for visitors to enjoy a sense of privacy and avoid overcrowding. It faces the ocean and is well-maintained, with clean, light-coloured sand that adds to its appeal.
The beach's natural features include unspoilt stretches of sand, crystal clear water, and natural dunes. At low tide, small pools open up, making it an ideal location for families with young children. The waves at Plage de la Lagune are less strong due to the protective barrier of the Banc d'Arguin, offering a safer environment for swimming. It is also suitable for naturism, which attracts a diverse range of visitors.
Safety is a priority at Plage de la Lagune, with lifeguards present to monitor the area and ensure a secure environment for visitors. However, caution is advised due to the potential strength of the ocean waves.
In terms of amenities, the beach has a restaurant open for lunch and dinner, offering visitors the convenience of dining options. Visitors can also enjoy the spectacular view of the stars and constellations at night, adding to the serene and enjoyable experience that the beach provides.
Access to the beach is easy, with a large, free car park located amongst the trees a short walk away. However, it should be noted that traffic can become heavy from early afternoon onwards. For those using public transport, the beach is accessible from a nearby bus stop, although it may require a somewhat lengthy walk.
The beach has encountered some technical issues in the past and had to be closed due to a fire that destroyed the nearby forest. However, safety and tree removal work carried out by the National Forestry Office and the municipality have allowed for the partial reopening of pedestrian access to the beach. The northern part of the beach, 200 meters north of the access, was the first to reopen. Despite these challenges, efforts are ongoing to gradually reopen access to the beach by conducting preventive tree cutting and road improvements. Visitors are advised to follow the designated access routes.
