Plage de la Mine is a picturesque beach nestled in Jard-sur-Mer, a resort town in the Vendée department of the Pays de la Loire region in France. The beach is situated west of the resort, nestled between the cliffs of St Nicolas and Ragounite Beach. Unlike its neighboring beaches, which are primarily rocky, Plage de la Mine boasts a large sandy expanse, making it an ideal spot for sunbathing.
The beach is known for its high-quality sand and water, earning it a reputation as one of the better swimming beaches in the area. Despite this, visitors are cautioned to swim only in designated areas for their safety. Even at low tide, swimming remains a viable activity due to the scarcity of rocks in the main beach area.
Plage de la Mine is surrounded by a pristine and untouched environment, with a quaint forest backing the beach, providing ample opportunities for picnicking. Despite its popularity, the beach maintains a quiet atmosphere, making it a favourite among both locals and visitors. It remains enjoyable year-round, even during the winter months.
In terms of amenities, Plage de la Mine is equipped with a small infrastructure that includes a bar and an ice cream shop. A surf school is also present on the east side of the beach, catering to those interested in surfing. Additionally, during the summer months, a small snack bar and a lifeguard station are available for the convenience of visitors.
Plage de la Mine can be accessed by taking the road to Payré via the Rue de l'Abbaye du Lieu Dieu from Jard-sur-Mer. After about 1.5 km, visitors need to turn left onto Chemin de la Mine. Convenient parking is available near the forest, within close proximity of the beach, and it is free of charge. The beach's location and its proximity to several campsites make it a frequented spot for beachgoers.
