Spiaggia La Pelosa, also referred to as Isthintini or Stintino, is a picturesque beach situated on the western coast of Sardinia, Italy. Known for its light, fine sand and turquoise sea, the beach is regarded as one of the most attractive in the entire Mediterranean region. The beach's natural beauty is complemented by various recreational activities, such as diving, windsurfing, and kayaking, which visitors can partake in. Additionally, a unique feature of Spiaggia La Pelosa is the opportunity for visitors to swim to a nearby island with a tower.
The beach is located in the town of Stintino, which was established in 1885, when the Italian government decided to establish a maritime health station and a penal colony on the island of Asinara. The government offered the former inhabitants of the island a sum of money and the opportunity to choose a site to settle. The long strip of land characterized by two deep inlets, known as Isthintini, was chosen due to its strategic location and connection with the island of Asinara.
Spiaggia La Pelosa is particularly popular during summer months and peak times, often becoming quite crowded. However, it tends to clear up in the afternoon, and after 18:00, when entry is free. Visitors are advised to move away from the organized umbrella sets to find more space. The beach is also wheelchair accessible, making it a suitable destination for all visitors.
Visitors are required to make a reservation at least 48 hours in advance and use a special cover, such as a straw mat, to protect the sand from towels. Parking at Spiaggia La Pelosa is charged and can be busy, particularly during peak times. Despite these considerations, the beach remains a favored destination owing to its natural beauty and recreational offerings.
