Plage de la Salie-Nord is a large sandy beach located in the region of Pyla-sur-Mer, Gironde, Aquitaine, in Europe. It is well-known for its slightly higher waves, making it a popular spot for water sports enthusiasts, particularly those new to bodyboarding. Moreover, the beach is a favored surfing location.
The natural characteristics of the beach are remarkable, with its beauty remaining intact despite the aftermath of a fire in previous years. It is bordered by the pleasant environment of the surrounding forest of La Teste. However, guests should be prepared for a strong smell and the presence of mosquitos that often make their appearance in the afternoon.
A unique feature of Plage de la Salie-Nord is its view of the Wharf de la Salie on its left side. The wharf is used to discharge treated wastewater from the Arcachon Basin into the ocean.
The beach is well-equipped with various amenities and leisure activities. It also offers a supervised bathing area during the summer months, ensuring the safety of all visitors.
Access to Plage de la Salie-Nord requires crossing a significant sand dune. However, to ease the journey, there is a path with wooden walkways. Despite the long access through the dunes, it is quite manageable, although it might be a bit challenging for young children or those with mobility issues.
Getting to the beach is straightforward. Visitors can reach it by taking the direction of Biscarrosse from Pyla-Plage via the D218 road. The entrance to Salie-Nord is approximately 2.2 km from La Lagune beach.
For those who prefer to drive, there is a large parking area near the access path, providing ample space for vehicles. Despite the beach's various amenities and attractions, it is not overly crowded, allowing visitors to enjoy their time in relative tranquility.
