Spiaggia La Torre is a small, picturesque beach located within the town of Rio Marina on the island of Elba. Its terrain is characterized by a mixture of medium-fine gravel smoothed by the sea and dark sand, creating a unique, pebbly landscape. Due to the stony nature of the beach, visitors are suggested to wear rubberized sea shoes for comfort and safety.
The beach stretches approximately 70 meters in length and 20 meters in width, providing ample space for visitors to relax and soak up the sun. Despite its modest size, the beach permits visitors to bring their own umbrellas and deck chairs or there is the option to rent them on-site, offering a degree of flexibility to its visitors.
Nestled at the foot of the 16th-century Tower of Appiani, the beach offers a remarkable view of the historic tower and the nearby port of Rio Marina. This unique position, coupled with the constant passing of large ferries and the crystal-clear waters of the beach, lends Spiaggia La Torre a distinctive character that is sure to charm its visitors.
However, it's worth noting that the beach's location at the mouth of a stream and its exposure to winds from the northeast to southwest may make it prone to flooding. The beach is also less sheltered from winds coming from the west, which might be a consideration for some visitors.
In terms of amenities, there are no services directly available on the beach except for some showers. There is also no bar on the beach. However, the town of Rio Marina, with its various bars and restaurants, is conveniently located nearby and can be easily accessed by beachgoers. Dogs are also allowed on the beach, but owners are expected to manage their pets responsibly.
Parking facilities at Spiaggia La Torre are somewhat limited, so visitors are advised to park their cars in one of the public parking lots in Rio Marina. From there, they can take a scenic walk along the waterfront promenade until they reach the Tower of Appiani, with the beach located at the base of the tower, behind the harbor dam.
While the beach is generally less crowded, it is also possible to access a second, usually quieter, beach located within the harbor. This beach is often occupied by small boats pulled ashore rather than swimmers, providing an alternative spot for those seeking a more tranquil experience.
