Spiaggia Le Tombe, Fetovaia is a serene and tranquil beach located in the southwestern part of the Island of Elba. It is named after the discovery of some prehistoric tombs in the area. The beach is approximately 1 km long, made up of dark pebbles and gravel, and divided into three smaller beaches close to each other. The largest of these beaches measures about 100 meters in length. The pebbles have been smoothed by the sea, providing a unique texture underfoot.
The beach is exposed to the southwest winds, but sheltered from the north and east winds. This, combined with the dark color of the stones, creates a warm microclimate, making the beach suitable even in the low season. The beach is also well-ventilated, and the black pebbles, while they can get hot during midday, absorb the sun's heat.
The beach's location offers stunning views of Pianosa and Corsica, and its crystal-clear waters make it a beautiful sight, particularly for snorkeling enthusiasts. However, there are no services or amenities available, and the beach lacks natural shade. It is perfect for those seeking peace and quiet, as it is not usually crowded. Visitors are advised to bring their own beach umbrella, blanket, and appropriate footwear to handle the hot pebbles.
Reaching Spiaggia Le Tombe requires a walk along a challenging trail, which might not be suitable for children or those with mobility issues. The trail starts from a nearby small parking area, free of charge, located approximately 1.2 km from Fetovaia and 2.5 km from Pomonte.
