Spiaggia Libera Carbonifera is a beach located within the Sterpaia Coastal Park, immediately after the Torre Mozza beach when coming from Follonica. It is easily accessible by both car and bicycle, with cycle paths leading from Follonica. The beach features a parking area suitable for both cars and campers.
Historically, Carbonifera was a small port that marked the end of a railway, which transported coal from the mines to the sea. Today, it is characterized by its fine golden sand and a centuries-old pine forest that provides shade during the hottest parts of the day. The beach also offers picnic tables and benches for visitors.
The clear and crystalline waters, along with a shallow seabed that slopes gently, make Spiaggia Libera Carbonifera an ideal environment for families with children. During peak tourist periods, inflatable water games are set up on the beach.
The beach is known to be crowded, but it also offers plenty of free beach space. From the beach, on clear days, visitors can see the Island of Elba and the Island of Montecristo. However, it is important to note that the beach has been reported to be littered with cigarette butts, indicating a lack of sensitivity and respect from some visitors.
