Spiaggia Lu Bagnu is a beach situated in the north-west of Sardinia, in the eastern part of the Gulf of Asinara. It is located in the town of Lu Bagnu, in the municipality of Castelsardo, in the province of Sassari, Sardinia. The beach is nestled between Punta La Capra and the port of Castelsardo, offering a beautiful panorama with cream-colored sand, a clear blue sea, and rocky walls covered in Mediterranean vegetation. Notably, Lu Bagnu is one of the few parts of the coastline in Castelsardo that is composed of a large expanse of sandy beach, as much of the coastline consists of high red trachyte cliffs.
The beach is approximately 800 meters long, with golden, bronze, and gray sand mixed with dark accumulations and fragments of shells and multicolored pebbles. The sea is a beautiful green-blue color, with a sandy bottom that becomes deep and rocky after a short distance. Flat rocks partially lower the sea level, which helps to keep the water warm and pleasant.
Lu Bagnu beach is easily accessible on foot, both from the town of Lu Bagnu and from Castelsardo, via a staircase that descends from the town center. Visitors traveling by car can take the S200 road southwest from Castelsardo for about 2 kilometers until reaching Lu Bagnu. From there, they can turn right onto Via Venezia and then right again onto a small road that leads to the beach parking area.
The beach is recommended for families due to its shallow shores, and it is also popular among young people. It is particularly suited for diving enthusiasts, as the waters are rich in fish and transparent, making for excellent snorkeling conditions. However, it can be windy at times, so visitors should take note of the weather conditions.
While the beach lacks specific facilities, it does benefit from the services of the nearby town and Castelsardo, which is only 2.5 kilometers away. There are various refreshment services available around the beach, and camping is permitted. The beach is often crowded during the high season as it serves as the town's beach.
The surrounding nature of Lu Bagnu beach may not be particularly interesting, but it is close to some strategic points along the coast and beautiful landscapes inland. Despite the lack of specific facilities, there are amenities such as a bar and kiosk in the vicinity for convenience. Visitors should be cautious of the path leading to the beach, as it ends in a staircase that some have found to be poorly constructed and potentially hazardous.
