Spiaggia Lunga is a picturesque beach situated in the northern coastal region of Piombino, within the province of Livorno, Italy. It extends approximately 3 km along the Tyrrhenian Sea to the south of Piombino city. This beach is renowned for its natural beauty, characterized by a rugged and irregular coastline, rocky cliffs, and an array of Mediterranean species which contribute to its wild and untouched charm.
The beach is composed of clear pebbles and stones, with a seabed also filled with large pebbles. The sea is striking, with varying shades of emerald green to turquoise, and crystal-clear transparency that makes it perfect for swimming and bathing. However, visitors are advised to wear rock shoes due to the pebbly seabed.
Spiaggia Lunga offers a serene and tranquil atmosphere, generally not too crowded, making it a peaceful retreat for visitors. However, it is important to note that there is no shade available on the beach. Despite its natural charm, the beach does not offer any services or facilities.
Various amenities are available in the area, including bars, restaurants, beach chair rentals, public showers, and lifeguard cabins. There is also free parking at the beginning of the coastal road, specifically in the Salivoli car park. From the parking area, the beach can be accessed via a scenic path that starts from Cala Moresca, a beautiful cove to the west of Piombino. This path, which is also known as the Cavalleggeri path, is approximately a couple of kilometers long. It is relatively flat but becomes steep towards the end. The path can be traversed on foot or by mountain bike, although it is quite stony, and visitors should be cautious of falling stones. The beach is about a twenty-minute walk from the car park. Despite the slightly challenging journey, many visitors find the trip to the beach worthwhile due to its natural beauty and tranquility.
