Merville-Franceville-Plage is a coastal town situated in the Calvados region of Normandy, France. Known as the youngest seaside resort on the CĂ´te Fleurie, the town was established in 1898 and has since developed into a friendly and family-oriented resort. The beach is accessible from various points in the town, including the main parking area, Kite-r Evolution, the playground, Avenue Jean Mermoz, Avenue de la cĂ´te Fleurie, the parking area of Les Mouettes, and the Magniez parking area. It is bordered by a pleasant promenade, with residential houses and small hotels and restaurants adding to the town's charm.
Plage Merville-Franceville is equipped with several amenities to ensure a comfortable visit for all. During the peak summer months of July and August, three lifeguard stations are open daily, and a specific type of beach wheelchair, known as a Tiralo, is available for people with reduced mobility. The first lifeguard station also provides toilets, showers, and a baby changing facility. Additionally, beach baskets can be rented directly at the first lifeguard station.
The beach is also open to dogs and horses under certain conditions. Dogs must be kept on a leash and are prohibited in specific areas during certain hours from July 1st to August 31st. Horses are allowed on the beach under specific conditions relating to time and location.
Merville-Franceville-Plage is known as the birthplace of kitesurfing in Normandy and is associated with fantasy and medieval themes through the Festival Cidre & Dragon. The town has also been awarded the "Famille Plus" label since 2011, guaranteeing family-friendly services, activities, and accommodations. Visitors can enjoy a variety of attractions and places to visit, making it suitable for both short and long stays.
