Spiaggia Monti D'A Rena is a picturesque beach located in the northeast of Sardinia, in the heart of the national park of the archipelago. This beach is nestled in the northern part of the island of Maddalena, between the points of Abbatoggia and Marginetto, and just before the tourist village of Punta Cannone. It's a few kilometers away from the inhabited center of Maddalena.
The beach is known for its unique white sand dune, standing ten meters high, that resembles a soft and white mountain, earning it the name Monti d'à Rena which translates to mountains of sand. The sand of this beach is slightly coarse, formed by the granules of granite that have been broken down into small grains and shaped by the Mistral wind. The beach gently slopes down to the crystal-clear sea, which has shades of blue and emerald green. The seabed is shallow and sandy, scattered with small granite rocks, providing a beautiful contrast.
Despite its popularity, Spiaggia Monti D'A Rena isn't as crowded as other nearby beaches. This makes it an ideal beach for relaxation on the sand dunes and for diving in the crystal-clear sea. It also provides a peaceful atmosphere for visitors and is family-friendly with ample space to accommodate a number of people.
However, it's worth noting that the beach doesn't have any facilities, so visitors are advised to bring everything they need. Also, the beach is known for its windy conditions and large waves, so it's not particularly suitable for snorkeling.
Access to the beach is via a road that leads to a parking area. However, visitors should exercise caution due to the presence of large rocks that could potentially damage smaller vehicles. The beach's location also offers a scenic view of boats slightly beyond the cove, adding to its overall beauty.
