Plage du Pavillon Royal is a scenic beach located in Bidart, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of the Aquitaine region of France. It lies to the north of the resort town, near the border with Biarritz and offers views of the Spanish coast from its sandy shores.
The beach is known for its expansive sandy terrain that stretches over a kilometer, making it the longest sandy beach in Bidart. It is relatively secluded, with access primarily by foot, making it a hidden gem in the area. The landscape of the beach is more natural, with rocky features on the right side, towards Biarritz. Despite this, the beach is considered a lively spot, especially during the summer season.
Plage du Pavillon Royal is popular among surfers of all levels due to the quality of its waves at low tide. However, the beach is also suitable for children and their bodyboards. The beach is supervised by lifeguards from mid-June to early September, ensuring the safety of its visitors.
The beach is equipped with restroom facilities for the convenience of the visitors. However, it is noted that the beach lacks certain amenities such as showers.
In terms of parking, the beach offers limited spaces. Visitors can reach the beach through various means. One such way is by taking the D911 road towards Biarritz and then turning left onto Avenue du Prince de Galles. Alternatively, the beach is accessible through the nearby Vélodyssée cycling route or by bus from the "Prince de Galles" stop or the Bidart Marihart stop.
Despite its popularity, Plage du Pavillon Royal is less crowded outside the main season. The beach also has a pet-friendly policy, allowing dogs during the summer season, though they must be kept on a lead.
