Sunrise Beach

Sunrise Beach is a popular destination located on the east coast of Koh Lipe, an island in Thailand. The beach is known for its clear turquoise waters and picturesque views, including a backdrop of Koh Adang island, smaller islands, and local wooden long tail boats. The beach stretches approximately 1.2 km from a small headland on the southeast corner of Koh Lipe northwards to an undefined point on the north coast of the island where the name changes to Bulow Beach. The beach is known locally as Chao Ley Beach due to the small Chao Ley Village near the center of the beach. The Chao Ley are an ethnic group of seafaring people who traditionally live a semi-nomadic life, setting up villages on beaches and moving seasonally. Sunrise Beach is an excellent spot for sunrise views, hence its name. It is also a great place for day trips to adjacent small islands, with kayak rentals available on the beach. Snorkeling is another popular activity, especially around Koh Kra. Despite the presence of several restaurants, bars, and retailers along the beach, it remains quiet and it's easy to find a spot in the shade. The beach is accessible and can be reached from the walking street in about 10 minutes. However, it's worth noting that the beach can get crowded with long tail boats, which sometimes hinder access to the water and views. Despite this, Sunrise Beach is a must-visit destination for its natural beauty and recreational activities.
