Plage du Thar is a picturesque beach found in the commune of Saint-Pair-sur-Mer, in the Manche department of Normandie, France. The beach is located between the Kairon-Plage area and the center of Saint-Pair-sur-Mer, on both sides of the Thar estuary.
Plage du Thar is known for its wild and unspoiled beauty and is especially popular for bird spotting and dog walking. The beach features a wide expanse of sand at low tide and has dunes along its length, adding to its natural charm. One of the unique characteristics of Plage du Thar is the significant rises and falls of the tides. During low tide, visitors may have to walk a considerable distance to reach the water. This phenomenon, however, contributes to the overall spectacle and allure of the beach.
While the beach does not have a lifeguard station, it is equipped with a ground parking lot, which is convenient for visitors. The parking lot features a shower and a toilet, though it is important to note that the toilet automatically closes at night. Access to the beach from Kairon is through Boulevard de la Mer, while free parking is available along the departmental road from Saint-Pair.
The beach is not suitable for swimming due to strong currents and sand movements. However, it is reserved for water sports, and a boat ramp is available for activities such as water skiing, jet skiing, and windsurfing.
Dogs are allowed on the beach and the high seawalls near the Casino and Kairon beach from September 16th to June 14th, provided they are kept on a leash and their waste is picked up by their owners. However, from June 15th to September 15th, dogs, except for assistance dogs, are not allowed on the beach and low seawalls.
Plage du Thar offers a serene environment for visitors to enjoy, and it's especially recognized for its spectacular sunsets, which can be appreciated during a leisurely walk along the shore.
