Spiaggia delle Acque Calde

Spiaggia delle Acque Calde is a beach located in the village of Acquacalda, which is situated on the northern coast of Lipari, a part of the Aeolian Islands. This beach is recognized for its distinct location, dominated by a striking white pumice mountain, a rare feature in Europe, with only one other similar mountain located in Turkey. The beach is adorned with a long, narrow pebble shoreline that enhances its natural beauty.

The beach is highly regarded for its unique natural features, including volcanic black sand and underwater bubbles and hot water that burst out from beneath the rocks on the seafloor, creating an extraordinary spectacle. The water is described as clear, offering an unobstructed view of the underwater phenomenon. The beach also emits a strong sulphuric smell, likened to that of boiled eggs, due to its volcanic origin. The name of the beach, 'Beach of the Hot Waters', is derived from the small hot springs that emerge in the sea water right at the beach. These hot springs, although not as warm as one might expect, are particularly popular among children.
