Spiaggia di Sovrano - Lo Sgarrupo is a naturally picturesque beach located in the town of Maiori, within the province of Salerno. The beach is renowned for its natural and unspoiled beauty, which has been maintained over the years due to the challenging access. It is nestled in the heart of the Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and is known for being pet-friendly.
The beach is characterized by its white pebbles and crystal clear water, which deepens rapidly just a few meters from the shore. This makes it a popular spot for snorkeling, despite the marine flora and fauna not being overly diverse. The natural beauty of the beach and its surroundings makes it a paradise for many visitors.
Access to Spiaggia di Sovrano - Lo Sgarrupo is not straightforward. Visitors can't drive directly to the beach and instead, must undertake a climb along a small footpath, or alternatively, reach the beach by sea from Erchie, either by swimming or renting a canoe. The beach is situated at the bottom of a steep cliff, and it is recommended that visitors wear sneakers or trekking shoes for the descent, and beach shoes for walking on the pebbles and for bathing. It is also suggested that visitors carry their belongings in a backpack rather than a beach bag to facilitate the descent.
Despite its remote location, there are no parking facilities nearby, leading visitors to often leave their cars at sightseeing stops. The beach can become crowded, particularly in the early afternoon. On a typical late July Saturday, the beach can accommodate around 150-200 people. By late afternoon, around 4:30 PM, the beach is almost entirely in the shade. Despite the challenges of accessing it, the beach's natural beauty makes it a worthwhile visit.
While in Maiori, visitors can also explore neighboring towns such as Minori, Ravello, Positano, and Amalfi, and sample the typical cuisine of the Campania region.
