Praia da Lapa is a beach located between Areas Gordas and A Lanzada. It is characterized by its shell shape and a length of about 450 meters. The beach is ideal for practicing water sports such as bodyboarding and surfing. A notable feature of the beach is the Outeiro das Lapas Islet, also known as Islote do Médico, which is linked to the beach by an isthmus of sand. When the tide is high, it becomes an islet. The islet is surrounded by a legend that speaks of galleries and a tunnel that would connect the islet with the Ons Island, a distance of just over 5 kilometers. This story originated from sailors who claimed their traps got stuck in these galleries. The islet was once home to a Castrexo Village that has not yet been explored.
The beach has a thick sand texture but is comfortable for barefoot walking. It is somewhat steep, making it potentially dangerous for children. The beach is also home to some rocks, which make it a good spot for diving. Despite these natural features, the beach has little vegetation.
In terms of amenities, Praia da Lapa offers a range of services. There are parking lots available for visitors, although there have been reports of charges being applied. The beach is equipped with bathrooms and showers for public use. There are also lifeguards present for safety. Nearby, visitors can find beach bars and cafes. The beach also has a cleaning service to collect any vegetation that the tide may leave behind.
Praia da Lapa is not typically crowded, especially during weekdays. However, it is a popular spot for families and sun lovers. The beach has been awarded a blue flag, indicating its high environmental and quality standards. It is also a smoke-free beach, contributing to its clean and healthy environment.
